The Hidden Glen is one of the most wonderful beauty spots in the whole of Sligo. It is a secret treasure which has elluded visitors to Sligo for decades. To enter The Hidden Glen one must find the appropriate hole in a ditch, and I am not going to tell you where that is. Yet to help just a bit I should tell you its at Knocknera Mountain, the famous burial site of Queen Meave of Connaght, on the side facing Ballisodare. When you look through the gap you will immediately see old rusted gates and the pathway beyond.

The pathway itself is steeply walled on one side with a deep ravine falling off on the other. After about three hundred yards a second cliff wall rises on the otherside also and you are hit instantaneously with a sense of tranquilty. A singular path now winds onward through the chasm for about 1km. Great trees overhang and enclose the walk. Long tendrils of ivy adorn the walls. What amazes me about The Hidden Glen is how it changes every 50m. Each twist or fallen tree you climb over leads you to another awe inspiring vision.

If you can find it, can ween its location out of one of the neighbouring farmers, you will not be disappointed.
