Congratulations Ursula: Clickoxo artist secures rights for her book to be made into a film

Teddy: A True Story by Ursula Boylan O`Gara

What a fascinating story! It has all the makings of a grand tale - romance, sacrifice, a bitter feud, deep family secrets and a soldier's life in the Great War. It strikes me as a story that should be told.
John Ward - Canadian Journalist, Toronto

Teddy: A true story is a compelling book, combining as it does a very human story with an objective description of the social and moral values of a Victorian/Edwardian family which might be taken as typical of the upper class of the period.
The story itself evokes differing sympathies and criticisms from the reader for the action of baby Edward~s parents in handing over their son to someone who, though vetted by them, was after all a total stranger. The author poignantly describes the plight of the parents, Edward and Charlotte, as they were emotionally pulled in many directions by social convention, family loyalty and love of their child. Their subsequent lifelong sorrow at having given up their child is seen as payment for avoiding the scandal of illegitimacy, the enormity of which, in that era, contrasts so markedly with today~s liberality.

The style of writing is interesting. The narrative in the early part of the book leading up to the adoption of baby Edward is written in a style which matches the stiff superior elegance of the period....with phrases like 'enjoyed an excellent repast'. This is emphasised by the effective change of style to the more conventional at the introduction of the adoption process.

Altogether it~s a sad story but is deserving of being told, which has been done admirably and in a very objective way without the offer or indeed the hint of any subjective judgement or opinion by the author.
Highly recommended.

And I Quote...
Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

Nelson Mandela
